The morning-after pill is used to help prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or contraceptive failure (such as a broken condom or missed birth control pills).
When to Take It
- Take as soon as possible after unprotected sex
- It can be taken within 72 hours (3 days)
- The sooner you take it, the more effective it is
How to Take It
- Take one tablet orally with water
- Best taken after a meal to help reduce nausea
- If you vomit within 2 hours of taking it, you may need another dose
Important Reminder After Taking the Pill
- The pill only works for the unprotected sex that already happened
- It does NOT protect you from future sexual intercourse
- Avoid having sexual intercourse after taking the pill, or use a reliable barrier method (such as a condom) if you do
- Having unprotected sex again after taking the pill may result in pregnancy
What to Expect
- Your next period may come earlier or later
- You may experience mild side effects such as:
- Nausea
- Headache
- Fatigue
- Breast tenderness
- Spotting
Important Notes
- This is for emergency use only, not regular birth control
- It does not protect against sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
- Take a pregnancy test if your period is more than 7 days late
- Consult a healthcare professional if you experience severe abdominal pain or heavy bleeding
